LUSO-HISPANA (Spain, SME)
Luso-Hispana de Acuicultura, S. L. is an aquaculture company, of which the majority owned by Isidro de la Cal Group, where the R&D Department of the Group is based. Isidro de la Cal Group is a fresh and frozen fish trading company, involved also in aquaculture production. The Aquaculture Division, has several fish farms, producing 3.000 Tn/year of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), covering the whole cycle, from broodstock, eggs and fry production, ongrowing, slaughtering, processing and marketing. Isidro de la Cal Group owns also 4 cage farms for blackspot seabream (Pagellus bogaraveo) ongrowing. The Group owns two hatcheries (blackspot seabream and turbot) and on-growing facilities, where turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) (350Tn/year) is produced.
The R&D Department has expertise in new species for aquaculture, being already working in the development of the culture of local species as wreckfish (Polyprion americanus), pollack (Pollachius pollachius) and red mullet (Mullus surmuletus). LUSO-HISPANA has wide experience in fish production, from broodstock to commercialization, with skilled technicians and modern facilities.

CV's of leading personnel

Dr. Javier Aran will direct the tasks of the company in the project. He is actually the director of the R&D Department of the group. He has wide experience in fish culture, aquaculture research, and quality control, being involved actually as coordinator in several national and international projects related with new species for aquaculture (blackspot seabream, turbot and wreckfish).
The R&D department is composed by 3 researchers, co-ordinating the development of the research projects by 10 skilled technicians with wide experience in hatchery, nursery and on-growing techniques and 1 pathologist specialized in fish diseases.
