Bio/consult A/S (Denmark, SME)
has many years of experience within the area of fish and fishery
in projects involving among others the Danish counties and municipalities,
the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fishery, the Danish Environmental
Protection Agency, Danish Harbour Authorities and organizations of fishermen
(professional as well as recreational).
Bio/consult AS is a private, independent environmental consultant
company established in 1980. The company provides services
within a number of biological and environmental disciplines.
The company's activities include involvement in large national
and international projects, such as the elaboration of EIA’s
(Environmental Impact Assessment studies) and the monitoring
of the environmental quality in connection to large scale
offshore constructions such as the Oresund Link between
Copenhagen and Malmoe and off shore wind farms. With regard
to donor-funded activities, Bio/consult A/S has participated
in or is currently involved in projects in the Estonia,
Maldives Islands, Poland, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
Such projects have added significantly to the company’s
overall competence, especially in the fields of joint venture
management, project management and quality assessment.
Regarding European activities, the company is currently
involved in EU projects concerning new production methods
for fish farming (POCEFF, Quality of Life, CRAFT proposal
no. Q5CR-1999-72468 - contractual negoziations) and Harmful
Algae Blooms initiation and prediction in large European
marine waters (HABILE, Sustainable Marine Ecosystems, contract
no. EVK3-CT2001-00087). Previously the company has been
involved in a PHARE Programme concerning Environmental Information
Technology and a LIFE programme concerning Remote Sensing
and a DANIDA-funded ENRECA project dealing with harmful
algae blooms.
The company staff includes 30 highly skilled and experienced
biologists. Totally Bio/consult A/S’s staff constitutes
a strong resource base for both implementation and technical
back up of international projects. The facilities include
a well equipped laboratory and facilities for electronic
processing, storing, handling and the dissemination of data.

Simon B. Leonhard Bio/consult A/S (Project
Manager) is Master of Science in biology and has more than
20 years experience in coastal management, including planning
and establishment of environmental monitoring, survey and
research programmes and environmental impact assessment.
The projects of which Mr Leonhard has been project manager
include large interdisciplinary control and monitoring programmes
as the Swedish and Danish Environmental Authorities’ Control
and Monitoring Programme for the fixed Link across Oresund
and the monitoring programme in connection with the enlargement
of Aarhus Harbour and Grena Harbour. Mr Simon Leonhard has
been the project manager on environmental impacts assessment
studies in relation to large offshore wind farm projects
in Denmark.
John Pedersen has as biologist and statistician
more than 20 years’ experience with advanced environmental
data processing, especially data from biological field studies.
He has designed and developed a number of databases for
the handling of environmental data including aspects as
handling of samples in field and laboratory, quality assurance
and statistical analysis. As the in-house system manager,
he is responsible for designing and maintaining Bio/consults’
LAN and WEB-facilities. Also he has several years experience
in instrumentation for automatic data capture, planning
and purchasing of technical equipment, establishing training
programs in environmental and statistical data analysis.
As approved environmental expert by the European Union he
has worked in international projects both inside and outside
the Union.
Kirsten Engell-Sorensen (born 1961) holds
a M.Sc. in marine biology and has more than 10 years experience
in the field of plankton ecology, fish biology and aquaculture.
She has published more than 20 technical reports in Danish
and English on fish biology related surveys and projects.
She is a representative of a Committee regarded to future
Sustainable Aquaculture Politics in Denmark (Minestry of
Agriculture, Food and Fisheries). Her experience includes
project management, project planning, design of breeding
facilities and actual breeding of different species of marine
fish larvae and juveniles. In the past two years Mrs. Engell-Sorensen
has also been involved in EIA (Environmental Impact Assay)
fish and fishery studies related to construction of off
shore wind farms.
